Welcome

Metal Is My PED

Ever tried to pull a heavy deadlift and psyched yourself up with some heavy music? Then you know why you’re here. Lifting heavy weights whilst listening to heavy music is a marriage made in Hell! Here at Stereoroids.com my aim is to share my passion for both. I’ve been lifting heavy (debatable) for decades, and listening to, and playing/performing heavy music for longer.

Consider this website as something resembling a training resource. Check out my Spotify playlists, list of my favourite albums to lift to, latest releases and, eventually some of my own music to help you through those lifts! Plus I’ll be adding more content as I develop the blog and see what does/doesn’t work.

On the lifting side of things I’ll give you my opinion on best programs I’ve used in the past, what has and hasn’t worked for me in the gym, along with my sacrosanct PR playlist and why I try not to listen to it too often.

I’m always keen to here about new metal bands and new workouts. So leave a comment and let’s see if we can get a bit of a community going!

Welcome to the site.

Keep it heavy! 🤘

    About Me

My name is Bob. I have been lifting consistently since my early 20s and listening to Heavy Metal since I was around 7 years old.

I predominantly train with barbells and my goals are mainly strength focused. I also incorporate elements of hypertrophy, strongman, powerlifting, CrossFit and calisthenics in to my training program to keep things spicy.

Ok ok ok, down to the nitty-gritty… Here’s my numbers:

My best lifts are, at 101kg / 228lbs body weight:

    Squat – 215kg / 473lbs

    Bench – 143.5kg / 316lbs

    Deadlift (sumo) – 250kg / 550lbs

    Deadlift (conventional) – 242kg / 533lbs

    Strict press – 85kg

    Push Jerk – 120kg

    Log press – 115kg

Impressed? I really don’t care, and neither should you. I was a skinny kid and I’ve built these numbers over literally decades, they’re good for me, and that’s good enough, it should be for you too.

    Music:

In no particular order (breath and brace) Heavy, Thrash, Death, Power, Black, Blackened, Viking, Industrial, Speed, Doom, Death-Doom, Goth, Gothic, Grind, NWOBHM, Melodeath, Shoegaze, Symphonic, Pagan, Groove, Nu, Post, Math etc etc etc. Put the word “metal” after any of the above words (apart from NWOBHM, because the M stands for METAL) and I. Am. In!… except for that Djent shit 😜

I played the guitar when I was a kid. I learned the 12 bar blues, 3 chord Beatles songs, Chuck Berry etc. They were all good. Then. One day… I heard Iron Maiden 😱

It was like I was hearing music for the 1st time. It was my gateway drug. Black sabbath came next, then Judas Priest, then Queensryche, then Metallica, then Sepultura, then Slayer, then Morbid Angel, then Nile, then Emperor, then … you get the idea.

I love this music. Everything about it.
    Heavy Metal
speaks to me so much more to me than any other genre of music I’ve ever experienced. I can’t really explain why… but I’ll give it a try…

It’s exciting and unpredictable. It’s evocative and provocative. It’s high energy and low pretence. It produces outstanding musicians who push the limit of the instruments I enjoy playing and listening to. It’s motivating, emotive, shocking and beautiful. It’s the chosen music in my opinion.
